The lake level is 564.67 and has dropped a little less than 2-inches in the last 24-hours. The surface temperature is about 83 degrees and the visibility is good  and you can see about 8-feet off rocky banks. Many Kentucky bass and crappie have moved to the bank at about 20-feet along with a few walleye. This has just happened. If you can find brush at 20-25 feet there will be crappie on them. Several are just on the main lake side  of main lake points with some straight out on the points. I saw very few fish at 30-feet where they were earlier. The thermocline starts at 25-feet and is cold at 30-feet. It was encouraging to see so many good fish. i still am seeing no white bass at all which is very unusual. I wish people would quit killing all of these small stripers and taking pictures of dock floors lined with small dead fish. It is not impressive.  When you fish in deep water and catch fish they all die no matter their size.  The limit needs to be reduced to two fish for stripers and hybrids. They do not dress out very well anyway for meat hunters but are fun to catch. Wait until they are on top or on the bank. This will happen this fall. Blackburns has $59/day cabins starting Tuesday and the fishing is getting better every day. Come on down.  We will not charge you too much.

Caught yesterday fishing with Bink's Guide Service. Image title

The lake level is 564.98 and has dropped 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours with one generator running part of the time. The Corps of engineers should be proud.  They have successfully held the lake high for the entire summer. The White River at Newport is at 12+ feet and they still will not drop the lake. The surface temperature is in the mid 80's and the lake is in excellent condition for swimming and boating. I went diving yesterday and the visibility was not quite as good as Monday but still ok for spearfishing. I found walleye on main lake steep banks in 25-feet of water near the first ledge and crappie on brush from 25-30 feet. Many bass were a little shallower than that. We have had very nice weather the last few days and it is to be good through the holiday and beyond. After Monday you can get a cabin here at Blackburns for $59/day and the fishing will get better and better for the next several weeks. Bink is catching good fish every day and scuba diving is excellent. Come on down.  We will not charge you too much. If you are staying elsewhere and paying too much this weekend stop by here and check us out on your way home. We are proud of this place.

If there were less of these:Image title

We could catch a lot more of these:Image title

The lake level is 564.84 and is exactly the same as it was 24-hours ago. They have cut way back on generation. I give them too much credit when I said they did not quit generating when it rains earlier. They just waited a day. The lake is clearing after the runoff and the surface temperature is in the mid 80's. Blackburns still have one cabin available for the weekend. 3-day minimum.

The lake level is 564.86 and has dropped a little less than an inch in the last 24-hours. We received over 2-inches of rain last night and this morning and the creeks run hard. They are slowed way down now. At least they did not quit generating during the rain like they usually do. We are catching a few catfish on our jugs but not very many. There are just too many gar. The weather has cooled and the surface temperature is about 85 degrees. I am not excited about summer ending but I will continue to dive until late October. I like three seasons but not winter. I do catch a lot of fish in the winter though. Remember that Blackburns resort and Boat rental is your fall foliage headquarters for Norfork Lake, Mountain Home and the Ozark Mountain Region. Peak foliage is usually the very last of October but you can get updates on this blog. It is also a peak time for fishing. Bink is on the stripers and walleye with his spoon. Some fish are deep annd some are at or near the thermocline at about 30-feet near the bottom. Bluegill are under docks. I predicted that the lake level would be about 564 by Labor day weekend a month ago and I still hold to that. I wish it would drop more to make my brush piles at the right depth for bass, crappie and walleye fishing but mostly so people could see sand again and leave it alone. I have a big sand pile next to my big pool. Blackburns has one cabin available for next weekend and a pontoon available for rent. Come on down.  We will not charge you too much. The grass is growing very fast and everything is very green. The lake is at a perfect temperature for swimming and boating and is in good condition.

Caught fishing with Bink yesterday.Image titleImage title

The lake level is 565.17 and continues to drop a little over 2-inches/ 24 hour period with generation a little more time. We received over 1-1/2 inches of heavy rain yesterday afternoon with a lot of lightening.  The creeks did run but not enough to raise the lake level. We were very dry but not now. Everything is very green and the weather has cooled with cloudy skies and chances of rain for the next several days. We seem to get a rain everytime we need one. The lake is in excellent condition for boating and swimming and has dropped 9-feet from it's high and the surface temperature is in the high 80's. Visibility is about 5-6 feet. The fish continue to be in two groups. One deep near the botoom in 60-80 feet of water and others near the thermocline. It is late August and the thermocline should not drop anymore this year unless it gets very hot again. It is about 27-feet and seldom gets below 30-feet unless the surface temperature gets into the 90's which has happened before. The fishing will get better and better after the holiday until sometime in October when the lake turns. The water will then be homogenous with no thermocline with equal temperature and oxygen for several feet and the fish have no reason to be anywhere special except for bait and cover. This is where brush piles really help fishing. The fishing gets good again and continues to get better until about thanksgiving. As winter cools the water in December red meat fish get scarce again and lethargic and hard to get and the lake gets very clear baring any heavy rains. Early to mid October is an excellent time to come fishing as is early to late November. Early October for walleye and November for giant crappie. Bass will be the most consistent bite. If you have a flexible schedule get in touch and I will tell you what is happening now.

The lake level is 565.41 and continues to drop a little over 2-inches/24 hour period with a little more than 1/2 the time generating. The creeks are clearing up a bit and the surface temperature is back to near 90 with the hot weather. There are still a lot of fish at or near the thermocline which is still less than 30-feet. Visibility is still about 5-6 feet. Spoons are working the best now for both the 30-ft. fish and the 60-70 foot fish. Just use a bigger one for the deep fish. Catfish are starting to bite again and bluegill are biting crickets. Bass fishing is slow except for the after dark salt craws. I am seeing a few bass coming up in the evening. I wish people would quit killing all of those deep small stripers in the 8-10 pound range. We will pay for it later. Blackburns still has two openings for the labor day holiday so give us a call before you have to pay too much elsewhere. Our big pool is waiting for you.

Caught this morning on a Bink's spoon.Image title

The lake level is 566.26 and is dropping at a rate of 2-inches/day with generation about 1/2 the time. The level at Newport has dropped below 12-feet now. This is crazy boys. Let some water out. And some people want the government to run more things. They have done an excellent job of holding it up all summer and are trying to get through until way after Labor Day. They cannot use the excuse that it is flooding elsewhere anymore. Our area is below annual average precipitation.  I had a 90-degree surface water temperature in Blackburns creek an hour ago. It is to remain hot for several more days. The creeks are stained and the main lake is somewhat less stained. A lot of fish are at or just below the thermocline which is 25-27 feet. Some smaller stripers in the 8-10 lb. range are coming in along with some good walleye. Bass fishing is fair and catfishing is less than fair but some are being caught. Bink is catching some good fish on his spoon.

The lake level is 566.68 and has dropped 2-inches in the last 24-hours with generation about 1/2 the time. It has come down over 7-feet from it's high and has taken a long time to do so. You can at least walk or drive the 1/3 mile to the lake with out taking the high road. This is good.  Some crappie have moved in to brush at 20-25 feet but there is not very much of that. Most of my brush still at least 12-feet too deep. I am using the 1/4 ounce Bink's spoon for them. They are not the big ones though. I am concerned about the numbers of white bass. I usually see many of them diving this time of year but have seen none. I do not fish for them but they are a good go to fish when nothing else is biting. Maybe the earlier fish kill was worse than we expected or maybe they are just in another area. People are just not bringing any in. The surface temperature is in the mid 80's and the hot weather continues. The lake is in good condition for boating and swimming and the overall fishing is fair. Water is stained but normal for August. The fishing will get better and better until lake turnover in October and then get better again. Thanksgiving is my favorite time to get bass, crappie, walleye and red meat fish. Catfishing has been slow so far but some are being caught spooning for bass and walleye.

The lake is dropping again after the rain. The creeks are stained and the walleye are schooling. Caught today on A Bink's spoon near the bottom in 30-ft. of water. 8 caught 5 measured.  Go to www.greatamericanwildlife.com and click on article about fishing near the thermocline. Good information.

The lake level is 567.87 and has dropped 1/2 inch in the last 24-hours with generation about 1/2 the time. We received heavy rain after midnight and the level has been rising slowly since then. They always quit generating when it rains to maximize the effects.   I received over 2-inches locally and the creeks run hard. They are calmed down now and they are just starting to generate again. At a rate of 2-inches/day drop we should drop about 3-1/2 feet by Labor Day weekend and be at 564 which is still 10-feet above where it should be this time of year but not bad.  They have had ample time to drop the lake but refuse to do so. The overall condition of the lake is good for swimming and boating. Fishing is only fair for bass, stripers, catfish and bluegill. A few scattered schools of crappie are showing up. I am seeing almost no white bass while diving.  I do not know where they have gone but they are not showing up with the deep walleye and stripers. The lake is stained and the visibility is not the best but that is not uncommon for August. It will get better as the water cools but do not look for that to happen anytime soon with very hot weather coming next week. Day use areas for swimming, launching and parking are getting a little bit better but are not good. Most Resorts have full services. If you have a desperate need for sand we have a large pile by our big swimming pool.   When you ask for openings always ask 1: Is this a duplex? 2: Do you have ample parking for my vehicle and boat trailer? 3: Do you have a pool and how big is it? 4: Do you have covered porches? 5: Do you charge for the first boat stall at your dock? 6: Do you have trolling motors on pontoons and are they free? Do you have a dock and how big is it? How far are you from town? This will prevent any big surprises when you arrive.

The lake level is 568.11 and is dropping about 2-inches a day with generation about 1/2 the time. They are keeping the White River at Newport at 12-feet no matter what. We seem to be in a pattern of hot and sunny weather until the heat of the day and then getting rain. It gets black to the west and hits about 3-PM. The grass is greening up again as we were very dry. We are to get rain for the next few days and then get hot again by next week. The mornings are very pleasant for fishing and boating and again in the late afternoon after the rain when it clears back up. The lake in general is in good condition and is a bit stained with surface temperature in the mid to higher 80's and perfect for swimming. Come on down. We will not charge you too much.

The lake level is 568.68 and has dropped about 2-inches in the last 24 hours with generation about 1/2 the time. It is very dry here. The lake is clearing a bit and the surface temperature is about 86 degrees. Walleye, bass, catfish and bluegill are the best bite now. The weather and lake conditions are excellent for swimming and boating. It is very busy here at blackburns and people are having a lot of fun. We like that. Come on down.  We will not charge you too much.

The lake level is 569.10 and has dropped 2-inches in the last 24-hours with generation about 1/2 the time. The White River at Newport is below 12-feet.  Let some water out boys. It is very dry and there is no flooding anywhere near here.  This is crazy. You cannot let the government run anything. The lake in general is in very good condition but is stained a bit but not unusual for this time of year. Fishing has held up pretty well with bass fishermen doing well after dark on saltcraws and stripers and walleye deep on jigging spoons. Bluegill are hitting on crickets. A few crappie are under the dock.   The surface temperature is in the mid 80's.  The weather has been great but dry with highs in the mid 80's. it is to get more normal next week with highs again in the early 90's. The days are shorter so the heat does not last as long. My walnut trees are dropping leaves already.  It is very busy here at Blackburns with people taking advantage of our low cabin rates, low boat rental costs and free boat stall with your cabin. Our big sparkling pool with slide and baby pool has been the center of attraction all summer. We are a bird sanctuary and have lots of wildlife on our 28-acres. Come on down.  We will not charge you too much. All cabins are individual with no duplexes and have covered porches. You can get a one bedroom cabin for $75/day. Not bad. The children need one more trip before vacation is over. They will like it here. I do.
