Norfork Lake fishing and lake conditions by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat rental (click here for comments)

They quit generating and the level is the same at 547.87 for the last 24 hours. The lake seems to be trying to clear just a bit. The bite was a little better yesterday with Mike Hemsath from Wentzville, Missouri reporting catching some good stripers and hybrids on Mallard point on a spoon. Good to see you Mike. It seems there are quite a few fish just outside the brush in about 40 feet in open water on shad. I caught a few more bass and crappie. It is to warm for a few days after this rain and there should be more fair weather fishermen out there. There have not been many lately. The fishing has just been fair and I do not know if it will get better soon or not. Open water temperate bass fishing has been hit or miss and the big stripers have been scarce with only a few in the 15-lb. range. One day you get into them and the next two you do not. Crappie and bass fishing has been steady but not fast. Again they turn off and then finally bite after several hours. I am not getting the giant winter crappie like I usually do but they are about 12-13 inches. I have got several over 16 inches but it was earlier than normal. You can not pay any attention to reports from people who go out and hit open water fish after not fishing for several days or not reporting when catching nothing. If you do you will be disappointed. Go out as often as possible, change with the conditions and you will catch fish but not a lot every day. It is nice to just be out there. Surface temperature is hanging in there at about 47 degrees. Spooning and trolling unbrellas are the best.  I am going out now and will stay until it rains me out. it is just under 40 degrees. We need the rain badly.
