Norfork Lake fishing and lake conditions by Scuba Steve from Blackburns Resort and Boat rental (click here for comments)

The lake level is 565.51 and rising with very little generation. It came up one inch in the last 24-hours and we are getting very dry again.  Newport is now at 16-ft. and they could be letting out a lot more. They are also reporting Norfork is only 37% full and we do not qualify for the 50% rule. Springs rains are not the cause of this, the policy of hold and hope is. Table Rock is still dropping with flood gates and heavy generation and is at normal height. There needs to be a water management shakeup and have the rules reviewed. They let Newport get down to 8-feet earlier and could have lowered the lake much earlier. The lake is clearer than it has been for several years but is not nearly as clear as the past. I remember scuba diving by Robinson Island in 30-feet of water and heard a boat come up by mine. I could look up and see his face. Those days have been gone for a while but it is much better than the last few years. It was so clear that is was bad for both spearfishing and pole fishing. Crappie are on the beds and so are some bass. Bass spawn up through June on Norfork. At least the lake has not risen or dropped radically so far during the spawn and it should be a good one with the water in the buckbrush providing cover for the fry. The lake surface temperature is in the early 70's and is about where it should be for this time of year. We are no longer behind on heat units.
